We're Using an Outdated Map...

It Started With a Question

Over the last couple of weeks, I kept coming back to the same question.

People, situations, and the same conversation showing up in completely different places.

Before I go any further, I want to say something.

I don’t know what each of you are going through right now.

I know what I have been carrying.

Between taking care of my dad, two unexpected crazy medical situations involving people I love, and having family currently deployed in the military, it’s been one of those weeks that reminds me how much can be happening behind the scenes.

One of those situations caught me completely off guard. I didn’t even know it had happened until over two weeks later when someone called and mentioned it to me.

It reminded me how easy it is to think we know someone’s life when we’re usually only seeing one small piece of it.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Last week I was in Raleigh.

I met some wonderful people. The ones that really stood out were a woman working the front desk at my hotel and another amazing woman working in a little juju shop I stopped at. Complete strangers who somehow made you feel like you were the only person in the room. We talked. We laughed. We connected.

Earlier that day, though, I noticed something completely different.

People moving from one thing to the next.

Next customer.

Next task.

The next place they needed to be.

They were doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing.

It just made me wonder.

How often do we get so caught up in our own internal world that we stop being fully present for the person standing right in front of us?

I get it.

Life gets busy.

Responsibilities pile up.

We're all carrying something.

Sometimes we're so focused on making it through the day that we don't even realize what we're missing.

We're using An Outdated Map...

There was even this one time I was headed to another little shop.

I didn’t know the area very well, so I plugged the address into my GPS and followed it.

It kept taking me to the same place.

Up one street.

Make a U-turn.

Back down the other.

Again.

And again.

By the third U-turn I started laughing.

My GPS and I were about to go toe to toe.

I slowed down, looked around, and still couldn’t find it.

That’s when I found out the business had been closed for years.

I laughed even harder.

My GPS wasn’t broken.

It just hadn’t been updated.

That’s when I thought...

Okay...

How often do we keep following the same directions expecting to end up somewhere different? It’s like our internal GPS might still be running on information that no longer matches the road we’re on.

Then There Was My Purse...

After spending the day and a night in Raleigh, my husband and I made a slight detour on the way home for a little pit stop to spend a few hours with our daughter.

After that we headed home.

About five hours later, we finally pulled into the driveway. It was around two AM.

Grabbed all our stuff and ...

That’s when it hit me.

My purse.

Actually...it’s a shoulder sack. 😆

I’d left it behind.

Five hours away.

Anyone who knows me knows that’s not like me.

I usually know exactly where my purse is.

It had all my credit cards, my ID, and my medical insurance cards.

It wasn’t like I could just turn around at two in the morning.

I started questioning everything...

Did I leave it there?

Did someone steal it?

I kept trying to remember the last time I saw it.

The next morning my daughter called.

"Yeah...it blended in with the couch so well we never even saw it."

Eventually she mailed it back to me.

That whole thing stayed with me.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d done anything like that.

Large tree that fell overnight across a wooded hillside after a loud crack was heard the evening before.

What the Light Revealed...

A few days later I was sitting on the porch after dark. It was really quiet.

Then... CRACK!

It was so loud I was sure a tree had fallen.

Of course, I ran inside and got my husband, who was just getting ready for bed.

He grabbed a flashlight and walked around the yard, but it was too dark to find anything. I was more worried that, with the sound being so loud, it had landed on one of the vehicles. The next morning, he called after he left for work. "You were right. The tree came down...and it’s huge!"

At that point I had already forgotten about hearing it the night before.

The tree had already fallen. The light revealed what had really happened.

That sucker had rolled down part of the mountain.

As my day went on, I noticed something flying around the front porch. When I looked closer, it wasn’t just one or two wasps. It was a whole group of them. None of them seemed confused. They all had a job to do. Flying all around. As I stood there watching them, a hummingbird flew right in front of me, maybe three feet away. It hovered for a few seconds... Then disappeared.

After I looked into each one, I realized they were all leading me toward the same conversation.

People Presence. We get so caught up in our own internal world that we stop noticing what’s happening around us.

GPS Outdated. We keep following directions that no longer fit where we’re trying to go.

Tree Revelation. The light revealed what had already changed.

Wasps Alignment. Every one of them knew its purpose, worked together, and kept building without confusion.

Hummingbird Awareness. It paused just long enough to remind me to stop, look closer, and notice what was already right in front of me.

The more I sat with all of it, the more I realized this wasn’t just about one unusual week. The same theme kept showing up.

In people.

In nature.

In everyday moments.

Even in me.

It felt like we were all trying to navigate a season that’s changing while we’re still learning the new directions.

So, I looked up...

And there it was. It wasn’t just one transit. It was the whole sky pointing to the same conversation I’d been having all week.

Mercury finally went direct. Looking back over the last few weeks, I’d say Mercury did exactly what Mercury does.

It had us going back over things. Looking at things, we missed the first time.

Changing directions.

Finishing conversations.

Finding things we thought were gone.

Then the Sun moved into Leo, with Jupiter right there beside it.

The more I thought about all of it, the more I realized my week wasn’t really about an outdated GPS or a forgotten purse.

It was about the people I met because of them.

The woman at the hotel.

The woman in the little juju shop.

My daughter.

The conversations.

The kindness.

Those are the things I’ll remember.

Pluto is still moving through Aquarius, and if Pluto is good at anything, it’s exposing what’s been there all along.

Kind of like that tree.

It fell that night. I heard it.

We just couldn't see it until the light revealed what had happened.

On July 26, The Nodes move into Aquarius and Leo.

I always pay attention when the Nodes change signs because they don’t happen very often. To me, the South Node feels like the old map.

The places we’ve already been.

The patterns we know.

The roads we can drive without thinking.

The North Node is the new map.

The one we’re still learning.

The one that asks us to trust a different route.

Then on July 29, the Full Moon in Aquarius shines a light on what’s been unfolding. Sometimes you don’t see the pattern until you step back.

When I looked back over my week... People. GPS. Outdated maps. Tree. Wasps. Hummingbird. None of it felt random anymore.

It all connected.

Everything changes.

And when everything changes,

I always take note from my dad: He always says...

"When it does...adapt and overcome."

The older I get, the more I realize how right he is.

Damn Stubborn Gypsy. 😝

If you’ve been noticing patterns in your own life but aren’t quite sure what they mean, maybe I can help. Connecting the dots is what I do. Through private sessions and or workshops, I’ve helped many people better understand why certain themes keep showing up, and where life may be leading them next. If you’re ready to connect a few dots of your own, I’d love to help.
